Parliamentary Tactics, of a piece by GOP

So the GOP tried to argue to the Senate Parliamentarian that because the reconciliation fixes to the HCR bill(s)would have some tangential effect on Social Security then reconciliation was not allowed (because reconciliation cannot be used to tinker with Social Security).  See crooksandliars

Many say that this was just a dilatory tactic, which it was.  However, the GOP is nothing if not clever.  There is always more than one angle to their attacks.  Disregard that the Conservagreeds are hypocritical for arguing that there will be a slight effect on Social Security when their tax cuts had just that effect several years ago.  It didn't trouble them then.  But then they have no consciences to be troubled.

Remember they don't like Social Security, just like they don't like Medicare Medicaid, the VA or public education.  No statement made by Rethuglicans about protecting any of those institutions should be taken seriously.

According to a Mother Jones article, which was based on a CBO analysis, the "Cadillac Health Care Tax" will slightly affect Social Security...positively!

The tax would "(1) rider affects excise tax, (2) excise tax pushes down insurance costs, (3) lower insurance costs lead to higher wages, (4) higher wages lead to higher payroll taxes, and (5) higher payroll taxes affect the Social Security trust fund."

How would it effect the trust fund.  More taxes would be paid into it resulting in more money for the trust fund, about $53 billion to be precise.  What's wrong with making Social Security more solvent?  Everything, if one of your core philosophies is to destroy Social Security.

That's why I fear for public education.  The NCLBA is a Hemlock pill with a sugar coating to help it go down easier.  It will force public schools to eventually close when they fail the testing regime and the regime will eventually require obscenely high pass rates, which is impossible to accomplish.

If it could be good for the general non-yacht owning public, never trust a Republican politician.
