Can't afford my daughter's braces

Next week we have to get a palate expander for my daughter's mouth.  Her teeth are horrible.  I mean scary to look at ugly.  Otherwise she is a very cute girl.  Of course I am going to say that, she's my daughter.  But she is cute.  She knows her teeth are bad and rarely smiles because of it.

If we don't get a palate expander her jaw will fuse over time and then the only way to move her teeth will be to remove a whole bunch of them.  The trouble is it will cost about 1500 dollars and our dental plan doesn't cover it.  Most don't cover orthodontia.

I lost my job in January and cannot find another one.  I have private clients as well, but they are hurting and haven't paid me in God knows how long.

My options are limited.

I can raid my children's bank accounts, but that is an awful prospect.  I have already borrowed money from family.  The only thing left is my pitiful 401k.  Very few of the companies I worked for provided much of one, so it is small.  It is smaller since the bankers decided to buy and sell mortgages like it was wampum.  My credit is shot because I missed a payment here and there and now I pay 30% interest on my credit cards.

I am still paying off medical bills from a year and a half ago from a condition that afflicts myself and my two sons (and that is just the deductible).  I cannot afford to treat my own condition because of it.  10% of a lot is still a lot for someone that does not have very much.

If I don't fix her teeth she will be ridiculed throughout school and will get worse jobs in the future.  So I think I will just have to raid my 401k and pay the 10% penalty and pay income tax on it.

I love the state of health care in this country...NOT!

Do they cover dental in Canada or the UK.  My ex sister in law (my brother in law used to be married to a Brit).  She blew out her knee skiing in Colorado.  Her American insurance did not cover it because the claimed it was an "unusually dangerous activity."  Her employer at the time who made her got to CO for business refused to cover it as well.  So she moved back to the UK (not the cause of the breakup) and her surgery was covered 100%.

God I love the state of health care in this country...NOT!
